Recommended Self Care for Fascia Health

Below is a link to an excellent fascia documentary. Fascia is connective tissue. It is like a sweater that covers all our bones, organs and muscles. It creates a support structure to help us move. It can become inflexible in areas due to surgery, injury, stress,  illness or repetitive movements or postures. That inflexible feels like "the muscle you just can't relax or stretch." I highly recommend watching the documentary because it can help you visualize what is happening in the body.  They show a percussive device they use on the fascia. These are speciality devices to be used by trained professionals. For my self care, I use Block Therapy. (I am a Block Therapy client. I am not paid in any way by Block Therapy) While there are many percussive massage tools available, I prefer blocking because I can take my time and feel what is happening to better understand where to work next. I feel safer and in control of my healing journey. It has helped me gain insight into cause and effect pain in my body.
Fascia Documentary
As I write this blog, I am 58. Over the years, I had areas of my body that I had labeled as "problem areas." "That knee" or "that low back" that always has a bit of pain and no action seems to help completely release the pain.  I felt that I was slowly loosing my flexible, despite doing yoga and being active all my life. I felt great after a yoga class but the "problem areas" always came back by the next day.  I started seeing a myofascial release massage therapist. The experience allowed me to see the patterns of fascial holding in my body were complex, years of injury, stress and surgeries.  I realized I needed a daily routine to help my fascia system to move freely. I found Block Therapy. I have links below. I am not paid in any way to endorse Block Therapy. This therapy has given me flexibility again.  Using this method, I have release chronic pain areas in my body that I thought I would have to live with for the rest of my life. The fascia system is also where the meridian system flows.  This is where we store old stories, beliefs and traumas.  So many times, while blocking, I have connected a pain site to an experience from the past. It is such a relief to release both the pain and the old story.  This therapy has been very empowering for me.
